12 Directors Who Admitted They Ruined Their Own Movies

4. David Fincher Thinks Alien 3 Is Not Entertaining Enough

Alien 3 is the sequel that many Alien fans pretend doesn't exist. Compared to the previous two critically-acclaimed Alien movies, Alien 3 is a spectacular failure that is both dull and over-the-top. The movie was received so poorly that director David Fincher has rarely talked about the movie and when he did, he had nothing but negative things to say.

When Fincher was hired by Fox, he had yet to make a feature-length film. The biggest thing in his portfolio at the time was one Madonna music video. During filming, Fincher and the studio kept butting heads. In the end, Fincher felt he couldn't make the movie he actually wanted to make.

Regardless, he ultimately agreed that he should've done better with the movie. "If we failed to do one thing in this film, and we failed to do many things, it was to take people out of their everyday lives. It's not a scary scare movie but a queasy scare movie and I think people resent that," Fincher said in an interview shortly after the movie was released. "We tried to make a movie about now and I just think in terms of the world box office we may have chosen wrong."
