12 Dumbest Decisions In Harry Potter Movies

6. Hogwarts Detention Policies

Malfoy Detention
Warner Bros.

If you misbehave at school or do things that both break the rules and endanger yourself and fellow students, you can reasonably expect to be punished. Detention is most likely, maybe some lines... you know, the usual approach to discipline in schools.

Obviously, this being a magical world, some rules are bound not to apply, but that doesn't make Dumbledore's decision to send children into the Forbidden Forest - a place otherwise completely off-limits - with someone as inept as Hagrid, any more forgivable. The fundamental danger is obvious - the place has FORBIDDEN in its name - but add to that the known threats in there and the unknown threat of whatever is injuring unicorns and you have lots of reasons not to send kits in.

And to compound it all, Hagrid then decides to split the group up, taking Hermione and Neville with himself and letting Malfoy and Harry go with Fang who is "a bloody coward." How nobody was killed here is incredible.
