12 Dumbest Movie Plot Twists Of 2016

5. Fake Memories - The Girl On The Train

Martha Batman V Superman
Universal Pictures

Many reviews compared The Girl On The Train to Gone Girl, but whereas Fincher’s movie was gloriously trashy and beautifully shot, Girl On The Train is flat and dull. Emily Blunt is great in the lead but the film around her isn’t on the same track (sorry).

The story throws a few twists at the viewer and leaves a question mark about Blunt’s trustworthiness, since she’s prone to violence when she gets blackout drunk. The thrust of the story is that she’s accused of killing a woman her ex-husband had an affair with, but it’s revealed her evil ex made her believe she was violent when drunk. This gave her false memories of events, and he actually killed his mistress in anger when she fell pregnant.

It’s basically the reverse twist of Gone Girl, where it’s revealed the husband is a murderous psycho. The difference is the reveal here is so convoluted and badly handled it comes across laughable instead of shocking, and requires too many lapses in logic to work.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
