12 Essential Movies Still To Come In 2019
4. Jojo Rabbit
This film harkens back to the point made in the intro about initial and worldwide release dates as the Taika Waititi directed Jojo Rabbit debuts at TIFF before its U.S release date in October, but disappointingly for non-American readers Jojo Rabbit does not hit international theatres until January.
Nonetheless the dark satire coming from the director of Thor: Ragnarok looks phenomenal. When young Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) discovers his mother (Scarlett Johansen) is hiding away a young Jewish girl during the second world war, he must confront his nationalism with the aid of his idiotic imaginary friend Adolf Hitler (yes that one) played by Taika Waititi.
With Sam Rockwell (Vice), Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids) and Stephen Merchant (Fighting With My Family) also in starring roles the movie has a solid cast. Under Waititi's direction, they look set to produce a hilarious, dramatic satire which commentates on bullying and isolation alongside blind nationalism while also being just a standout movie of the next few months.
