12 Essential Movies Still To Come In 2019
3. The Irishman
Martin Scorcesse directing Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino. That is all. Debuting at the New York Film Festival before its limited theatre run and Netflix release, the biographical, crime passion project The Irishman from Scorcesse looks fantastic.
Following the release of the trailer, worries about the extent and use of VFX to de-age the acting legends were quenched and we were treated to a preview of what looks to be a phenomenal story. This will be the ninth - but first since 1995's Casino - collaboration between the legendary Scorcesse and De Niro, and will be the second feature film from Pesci since his unofficial retirement in 1999.
Based on the book by Charles Brandt I Heard You Paint Houses, The Irishman follows Frank Sheeran, a WWII vet and former hit man for the mob as he reflects on his involvement with the mob and in the disappearance of labour union leader Jimmy Hoffa in 1975.
If this film lives up to the former work between these three actors and Scorcesse it is bound to be phenomenal and one of the bigger award season contenders come 2020. Everyone who is not already must be bursting at the seams waiting for the films Netflix release this fall.
