12 Films So Bad That They Killed Off Their Franchise

3. Jaws: The Revenge

Batman And Robin
Universal

The first Jaws film is a bona fide cinematic classic. Speilberg's original take on the deadly shark defined an era and introduced the world to the concept of a true summer blockbuster.

In the years following, the franchise saw a steady decline from sequel to sequel. Jaws 2 was a retread of the first but with a more slasher-akin formula. Jaws 3 was an ill-advised foray into camp territory, that used an over-reliance on 3D gimmicks to compensate for a distinct lack of interesting characters or plot points.

Then came the real doozy; Jaws: The Revenge.

This film centers on the character of Ellen Brody and the trauma she's endured in the years since the original film. While that may initially sound like an intriguing bit of character study, Jaws: The Revenge has much more important things on its mind than character. You know, like telepathic sharks and geriatric romance stories.

That's right folks, Jaws: The Revenge takes everything you thought you knew about the franchise and makes it infinitely worse. From the characters to the plot, to the execution, this film is a study in legitimately terrible filmmaking.

Somehow, even the shark looks abysmally worse than he ever has before.
