12 Films So Bad That They Killed Off Their Franchise

10. Speed 2: Cruise Control

Batman And Robin
20th Century Fox

The first Speed film was a surprisingly good time at the movies. It featured a high-octane concept, some solid on-screen chemistry with lead performances from Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, and some truly stunning moments of stunt work. Obviously, the sequel decided to forego literally all of these things. Except for Bullock, who's back but sadly must have lost her dignity somewhere along the way.

Speed 2 lowers the stakes in every possible way. Where the first film centered around a bus careening through busy streets, this film centers on a boat out at sea. It is ludicrous that such a pitch was ever even remotely considered, much less followed-through on.

This film flopped hard at the box office, deservedly so. It is a genuinely awful film that even its cast collectively admitted it was some of their worst work. Audiences did not take kindly to the sequel that quite literally spat in the face of everything they loved about the original, and the franchise has been dead in the water ever since.
