12 Great Horror Movie Shorts You Need To See

1. Contingency

Contingency is a part of the Local 58 Youtube series, a collection of short, unsettling horror films that adopts the aesthetic of an American late-night local television channel. Together, the shorts in this series form a kind of lovecraftian horror not just about unknowable monstrosities, but about the seemingly abstract, unknowable systems that govern us.

This short takes is a fictional, pre-recorded public service announcement stating that The United States has been successfully invaded and advises American citizens on what they should do next. I won’t say anything more, but the short becomes quite disturbing, quite quickly - all the more so because the aesthetics of the show make it feel quite real, like something you might wake up to after falling asleep with the television on in a cheap hotel.

It’s quick, effective, and existentially terrifying.
