12 Great Moments In Mediocre Comic Book Movies

11. The Birth Of The Sandman In Spider-Man 3

Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy could have, and should have ended as something truly excellent. However, the third installment saw the franchise limp over the finish in the worst way possible.

Thanks to an overload of characters, a woefully miscast Eddie Brock, and, sigh, Peter Parker's dancing, there is very little good that can be taken from the movie. Very little, but not nothing entirely.

After Flint Marko's accident, he is essentially reborn as the Sandman. This scene where his new life is born is actually incredibly moving, thanks in no small part to the powerful and emotional score by Christopher Young. Clearly damaged, and struggling to build himself into human form, the creature finds the locket holding his daughter's picture.

Unable to grab it at first, Flint looks at his daughter surely wondering if he will ever see her again. Though the CGI is a bit sketchy by today's standards, the emotion is raw and you can't help but feel sympathy for the character, which is something not many villains are able to achieve. Maybe if the movie had focused on just one antagonist instead of trying to cram in as many as possible, we wouldn't look back at Spider-Man 3 with such disappointment.
