12 Great Movies That You'll Never Watch Again (And Why)
2. The Tree Of Life (2011)
What It's About: The Tree Of Life is an impressionistic story about a 1950s Midwestern American family. The film follows the familys eldest son Jack from his early years through to adulthood as he tries to resolves his complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). As a grown man, Jack (Sean Penn) struggles with his faith and begins to seek out the true meaning of life.
Why It's Great: This ambitious effort from Terrence Malick catapults us into the cosmos and makes us leave the cinema asking the same questions as his characters. The now 71-year-old Malick attempted to make his masterpiece with this one, and he wont get much closer, having created something genuinely beautiful and thought provoking on the grandest of scales.
Why You'll Never Watch It Again: As brilliant as most people believe this film to be, its something you cannot afford to switch off for when watching, not even for a split second or youll be lost before you know it. This should make it the perfect candidate for a second viewing, but, honestly, the finale feels a little unsatisfying given the cosmic scale of the movie and doesn't leave you desperate to sit though the entire thing again. If you arent prepared to keep your attention levels at their highest during a re-watch, you might as well not bother.
