12 Great Movies That You'll Never Watch Again (And Why)

2. The Tree Of Life (2011)

The Tree Of Life
Fox Searchlight

What It€™'s About: The Tree Of Life is an impressionistic story about a 1950s Midwestern American family. The film follows the family€™s eldest son Jack from his early years through to adulthood as he tries to resolves his complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt). As a grown man, Jack (Sean Penn) struggles with his faith and begins to seek out the true meaning of life.

Why It'€™s Great: This ambitious effort from Terrence Malick catapults us into the cosmos and makes us leave the cinema asking the same questions as his characters. The now 71-year-old Malick attempted to make his masterpiece with this one, and he won€™t get much closer, having created something genuinely beautiful and thought provoking on the grandest of scales.

Why You€™'ll Never Watch It Again: As brilliant as most people believe this film to be, it€™s something you cannot afford to switch off for when watching, not even for a split second or you€™ll be lost before you know it. This should make it the perfect candidate for a second viewing, but, honestly, the finale feels a little unsatisfying given the cosmic scale of the movie and doesn't leave you desperate to sit though the entire thing again. If you aren€™t prepared to keep your attention levels at their highest during a re-watch, you might as well not bother.
