12 Great Movies That You'll Never Watch Again (And Why)

11. Old Boy (2003)

Josh Brolin Oldboy remake

What It'€™s About: Writer of Snowpiercer and director of Stoker, Park Chan-wook first came to the attention of the casual film fan when his neo-noir thriller Old Boy spread beyond South Korea€™s borders by sheer word of mouth.

The film follows Oh Dae-su as he is kidnapped in a drunken state and locked in a hotel room for 15 years without knowing the identity of his captor. When he is suddenly released from his prison, Dae-su falls into a web of conspiracy and ultra-violence, complicated further when he falls for a local sushi chef.

Why It'€™s Great: Arriving as a breath of fresh air for western viewers sick of choking down Hollywood€™s formulaic thrillers, Old Boy is a constantly gripping and visceral tale of revenge that becomes more engrossing the deeper its anti-hero digs into the strange circumstances surrounding his imprisonment and subsequent mysterious release. The action on show is some of the best of the decade, stylish and gritty throughout. The three minute long, one-take fight scene ranks as one of the best ever filmed.

Why You'€™ll Never Watch It Again: As Dae-su arrives at the penthouse owned by Lee Woo-jin, the man behind his abduction, the mystery finally unravels, and part of you wishes it had stayed ravelled.

In a response to rumours Dae-su started back in high about Woo-jin sleeping with his own sister (something he saw with his own eyes), Woo-jin had him locked up long enough for his daughter to mature, then hypnotised them both and watched as they fall in love and do the exact same thing! Dae-su cuts out his tongue so he can never tell the world about his accidental incest. A creepy end to an awesome film.
