12 Great Soundtracks In Otherwise Terrible Movies

7. Armageddon (1998)

The Greatest Showman Hugh Jackman
Buena Vista Pictures

When you think of Michael Bay’s Armageddon, the song “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith probably springs to mind as well.

And that’s totally understandable – it’s one of the most epic rock ballads of all time, one that’s been relentlessly overplayed in many karaoke bars. Most of the songs in Armageddon are performed by the band Aerosmith, amongst other rock artists, which is perfectly apt for the film’s grand-scale, exciting sci-fi story that it was aiming for.

As well as its stellar choice of artists, Armageddon is a stupidly enjoyable mess of a movie and it’s totally aware of this.

Ben Affleck gives an exceedingly inferior acting performance as A.J. Frost but the cast is so star-studded, it’s not bothersome. The script skewers and ignores all scientific laws but there’s constant action sequences jammed throughout that it becomes unnoticeable.

The worst offender is that there is also some cringe-inducing stereotyping near the start of the film, but the story is so bloated and long that you’ll probably forget about it towards the end.

To put it in simpler terms, Armageddon has aged badly but has unintentionally covered it up well with some nice distractions (mostly with Aerosmith).
