12 Greatest Monsterverse Movie Moments (So Far)

7. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters - Dr Serizawa's Sacrifice

Thanks to a mostly terrible script, consistently bad lighting and one of the worst surprise villains in a movie ever, Godzilla: King of the Monsters is by far the worst Monster-Verse film to date.

Still, that's not to say there aren't any great scenes in there.

At the very least, the film offers a wonderful send-off for the best human character the franchise has yet given us: Dr Ishiro Serizawa (an excellent Ken Watanabe), a wise and thoughtful Japanese scientist who provides the heart of the whole film and gets all of its best lines.

He sacrifices himself by detonating a nuke to revive a wounded Godzilla, thus allowing Godzilla to defeat the monsters running rampant all over the world, and it's a really moving scene - especially when Serizawa says, in Japanese, "Goodbye, old friend" to Godzilla.

The franchise has bungled some other major death scenes over the years, most prominently Bryan Cranston's character dying far too early in Godzilla, but at least Serizawa got the great ending he deserved.
