12 Greatest Monsterverse Movie Moments (So Far)

6. Kong: Skull Island - The Giant Spider

King Skull Island
Warner Bros.

One of Kong: Skull Island's biggest - and most pleasantly surprising - strengths is that it has a surprisingly brutal, almost horror-esque vibe throughout.

Perhaps the best example of this is when a group of soldiers are walking through the forest. They look back... to discover that one of them has been impaled through the mouth by some sort of branch. Yes, this is a PG-13 movie.

Then, they look up and realize that many of the 'branches' around them aren't branches. They're the legs of a giant spider, which is right above them.

"Holy s**t!" doesn't even cover it.

What follows is a very frightening and brilliantly-executed set-piece in which the soldiers barely make it out alive and one of them is nearly eaten by this grotesque monster.

Is this the best giant spider scene in movie history? It's up there anyhow.
