12 Hidden Horror Movies You’ve Probably Never Seen
10. Berberian Sound Studio
An underrated figure in British cinema even after a trio of superb features in a row, Duke of Burgundy director Peter Strickland really does deserve more than the bemused "who?" which his name typically prompts outside of film buff circles.
The director's moody, atmospheric 2014 lesbian love story may be his masterpiece, but last year's hysterical "haunted dress" giallo riff In Fabric must be seen to be believed, whilst the director's work has never been more bone-deep unnerving than in 2012's Berberian Sound Studio.
This one may follow a sound technician haunted whilst he engineers the effects for a gory horror, but despite this meta-ness the film is no smug spoof and manages to makes sound editing a terrifying head trip for poor meek leading man Toby Jones, as well as even the hardiest viewer.
