6. Isolation
There are some achievements in the realm of horror
cinema which deserve serious respect.
After all, any Scream or The Ring can make answering the phone feel dangerous, but it takes a Chucky to get us scared by a children's toy.
In that vein, Isolation is a gory and intense Irish horror which manages the not inconsiderable feat of making the phrase “killer cow” genuinely scary. With an unforgettable monster design and some dark, claustrophobic sequences, this one is better than its premise has any right to be, and it's elevated by an ensemble including Ruth Negga, Sean Harris (him again), and Essie Davis as the farmers besieged by the unlikely terror.
