2. Deadpool
This one's a particularly sore point for a lot of comic book fans, given how royally Deadpool's presence was screwed up in the spin-off
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, reducing him to an absurd-looking beast who is summarily decapitated by Wolverine at the conclusion of the film. Way back before Gavin Hood and co. infuriated us with their abhorrent film, though, a standalone Deadpool film had been gestating at New Line Cinema, with the provision that it could not be connected to the other
X-Men films. As is a common theme for comic fare, David S. Goyer was again involved with its development, getting Ryan Reynolds on-board following their working together on
Blade: Trinity, with the plan to deviate somewhat from the comic conception of the character. After Goyer left to work with Christopher Nolan, the project was placed into turnaround and, following Deadpool's appearance in the Wolverine film, Fox began to consider their prospects at creating a Deadpool film, deciding to ignore the treatment in Wolverine's film and essentially reboot the character. Fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief when in 2010 it seemed like Robert Rodriguez might join the production in either a directorial or advisory capacity, but this fell through. After reports initially suggested music video director Adam Berg would take the reins, it was announced in April 2011 that Tim Miller, who worked on the visual effects on the first two X-Men films, would be directing, an absolutely baffling choice given his complete lack of experience as a director... Decisions like this suggest that Fox aren't really taking the project seriously at all, and though Reynolds remains attached - and is a great choice for the role - this seems like something that is just going to keep bouncing between inept directors.
