3 & 4. The Girl Who Played With Fire/Kicked the Hornet's Nest
Though few will argue that David Fincher's adaptation of
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo last year was anything but an unqualified success - and I would even go as far to say that it far outdoes the slack original film - the film posted "only" $232m against a $90m production budget, which was considered a major disappointment given its built-in audience. Since its release, it has been suggested that
The Girl Who Played With Fire and
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest might be filmed back-to-back - which would likely cut down on costs - and leads Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are contracted for these films should they go ahead. However, it was reported last month that the sequels have been delayed until 2014 at the very earliest, even though director David Fincher is apparently keen to return. However, with Fincher having as full a plate as ever, it's difficult to imagine that this is high on his priorities list, and frankly, for a director who should probably be training his efforts to original fare, I can't say I'm too cut up about that, despite fans of the remake obviously hoping for some speedy sequels.
