A truly underrated masterpiece, The Descent is the 2005 tale of six women who plan a trip to go spelunking in a series of caves and tunnels out in the wilderness, where they run into a race of savage underground creatures called Crawlers. What helps the Descent stand out from most other horror films is the truly unique style of camerawork used by director Neil Marshall to make every shot filled tight and claustrophobic, with rocks and caverns constantly cramming into the corner of the lenses and making the audience feel as trapped as the characters.

The film's final girl is Sarah, a woman who recently lost her husband and daughter to a car crash and is still in the middle of dealing with the psychological strain that comes with such a loss. It turns out however that one of her friends, Juno, had been having an affair with Sarah's husband prior to the crash, something that Sarah only finds out right at the end of the film.

Not only is Juno a home-wrecker in the making, but she also lies to the group about the location in which they're going. She gets them to all ditch their maps, taking them to a group of caves that aren't monitored by mountain rescue and have never been chartered before. Bad move, Juno.
