12 Horror Movie Sets That Were Definitely Cursed

4. The Poltergeist Trilogy

A deadly curse has plagued the Poltergeist trilogy and it’s all because someone decided to cheap out on the first film’s props. Remember that scene where mum Diane slips into their swimming pool and skeletons start popping up from the murky depths?

Those skeletons were real. Not fake prop skeletons but the actual remains of human beings because real skeletons were apparently a cheaper option back then than plastic models. It seems the souls that once inhabited those bodies didn’t take too kindly to this because as soon as filming began, spooky sh*t started happening.

JoBeth Williams who played the mum that got manhandled by real dead people would come home from shooting to find the picture frames on her wall hanging crooked, while Oliver Robins nearly died on set due to a prop malfunction when his character Robbie gets strangled by an evil toy clown.

But this is a deadly curse, remember, so this is tame compared to what’s about to come. Shortly after the release of Poltergeist, Dominique Dunne (older sister Dana) was murdered by her boyfriend while Will Sampson and Julian Beck, who both starred in Poltergeist II: The Other Side, died shortly after filming. Most famously Heather O’Rourke, the young star of the trilogy, died tragically young at the age of 12 due to a misdiagnosed bowel obstruction.

So, basically a film that’s about the repercussions of desecrating the dead got lumbered with its very own curse because its makers disrespected the dead. Kind of funny really, if it weren’t for all those dead cast members.
