12 Horror Movie Sets That Were Definitely Cursed

3. The Exorcist

Even having the set of The Exorcist blessed by a priest didn’t deter the Devil from messing with the production of William Friedkin’s classic horror about a mother and her young daughter, Chris and Regan McNeil, beset by demonic possession.

A mysterious fire tore through the set of the McNeil’s house destroying everything apart from the possessed Regan’s bedroom and causing lengthy delays in production, while stars Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair both suffered serious back injuries during filming. A night watchman and special effects expert are said to have died during filming too.

Cast members Jack MacGowran and Vasiliki Maliaros, whose characters die in The Exorcist both died before the movie was released and during a screening in Rome a 16th-century church across the street from the cinema was hit by lightning, causing a cross to plummet to the plaza below.

Even people who went to see the movie weren’t immune with reports of fainting, vomiting, heart attacks and even a miscarriage during screenings while several movie-watchers reportedly were put in psychiatric care after watching The Exorcist.

Now, it’s a scary film, but it's definitely not scary enough to induce those sorts of reactions, so the only logical explanation is that it was Satan at work.
