12 Huge Movies That Captain Marvel Destroyed At The Box Office
1. The Dark Knight
Box Office: $1.005 billion
Despite its relevance to Avengers: Endgame and the fact that its the MCU's first female-led superhero film, few could have predicted that Captain Marvel would best the most beloved comic book movie of all time... in a month.
The Dark Knight may well be the cream of the superhero crop. A comic book movie only because of its ties to the source material, Christopher Nolan's grounded thriller dominated the box-office in the summer of 2008, eventually becoming the first superhero movie to cross the one-billion mark and, at the time, became the fourth-highest grossing film ever - all without the help of China.
It's impossible to analyse Captain Marvel's victory here without factoring in its performance in China. As far as this battle is concerned, the MCU film owes a great deal of its success to its strong performance there because, domestically it won't match The Dark Knight's impressive $533 million cume. Thus, it's pretty obvious that its release in China aided in its pipping of the Batman classic to the post.
Nonetheless, the fact that she was still able to globally outgross the most revered comic book movie of all time is an achievement that everyone involved should be proud of.
