And finally, even Optimus Prime is no match for Pennywise anymore, likely in large part due to the overwhelming franchise fatigue that hit the Transformers series with its fifth instalment.

Despite two of the prior entries grossing a billion dollars apiece, it seems that even teenage boys have started to grow fed up with Michael Bay's juvenile blockbuster series.

Let's face it, though: if you told someone six months ago that Transformers would get trounced by an R-rated Stephen King adaptation, you'd be laughed out of whatever establishment you dared to share such nonsense.

Isn't the film industry a wonderfully unpredictable beast sometimes? And as easy as it is to rag on "casual" audiences, at least their wallets voted in the right direction in this case.

Did you see It's box office dominance coming, or were you hugely shocked? How will It: Chapter 2 perform in 2019? Shout it out in the comments!
