12 Hugely Iconic Movies That Shockingly Didn't Win A Single Academy Award

8. North By Northwest (1959)

Nominated For: Best Film Editing; Best Production Design; Best Original Screenplay. IMDB Ranking: #54 Rotten Tomatoes: 100% When you team up Cary Grant with Alfred Hitchcock, you know you're on to a winner. And North by Northwest is one of cinema's greatest winners. Just not at the Oscars. North by Northwest contains several of the most iconic scenes in movie history (that have been directly parodied by the likes of The Simpsons and Family Guy in recent years) and was named the 21st greatest screenplay ever written by the Writers Guild of America. Unfortunately for the movie, its main competition was Ben-Hur, which today still holds the record for the most Awards ever won with eleven. This may prompt many to say that it isn't that surprising that North by Northwest didn't pick up any Oscars, but in my humble opinion, any film that ends with four people embroiled in a brawl on top of Mount Rushmore should be a shoo-in for at least one.
