12 Incredible Endings To Otherwise Terrible Movies
2. Tusk (2014)
There's a good chance that Tusk is one of the weirdest movies ever released - particularly by a director who had traditionally made such mainstream movies. It also feels like a conscious f*ck you to all of Kevin Smith's critics (a strange one at that, given that it merely gave them more ammunition) and some sort of attempt to act out. This was him saying he could make whatever films he liked and nobody could do a damn thing about it.
Sadly, the result of that was as predictable as you'd think it was going to be. Tusk is no more than an exercise in baiting and provocation and it doesn't have the decency to even be good alongside its weirdness. Sure, Justin Long's performance is captivating, but the whole thing smacks of a wayward infant scribbling on the walls in between bouts of boring dialogue.
But the final scene is legitimately great. Having been fully transformed into a walrus, Long's Wallace is visited by his girlfriend, who remembers him saying that the important thing distinguishing humans from animals is thw ability to cry, implying the presence of a soul. She walks away, and tragically, we see a single tear roll down Wallace the Walrus' face, confirming he's still very much human. Try not to be touched by that.
