12 Incredible Endings To Otherwise Terrible Movies
6. The Da Vinci Code (2006)
The Da Vinci Code is very much the cinematic product of an over-hyped populist book that pulled all sorts of clever ruses to get the reader to commit to reading it vociferously. It was Fifty Shades Of Grey (without the flaccid sex scenes) before EL James ever decided to rip Twilight off, so it should have come as no surprise that the film wasn't very good.
Even with Ron Howard, Sir Ian McKellen and Tom Hanks at the top of the list of talent, the film struggles to be anything other than middling thriller material with some clever twists that end up being curiously unsatisfying by the end. It doesn't help that it presents itself as highly intelligent, when really it's no more than a Sudoku puzzle dressed up.
But for as boring as the film is, the ending - in which Hanks' Robert Langdon discovers the Da Vinci's secret by accidentally cutting himself shaving - is surprisingly stunning, thanks mostly to the combination of images with Hans Zimmer's gorgeous score.
