12 Insane Documentaries Way Stranger Than Fiction
3. Jim & Andy
Actors
are often celebrated for their ability to inhabit the characters they are
portraying. But as we’ve heard on many occasions, some actors find it easier to
switch on and off from their roles than others.
The portrayal of an already eccentric performer, Andy Kaufmann, was brought to life by Jim Carrey in the 1999 movie, Man On The Moon. But the documentary ‘Jim & Andy’, released almost twenty years later, unearths behind the scenes of footage of Carrey’s bizarre behaviour during the recording of the movie.
Carrey’s attempt to dive into the psyche of Kaufmann is difficult to watch at times as he desperately attempts to transform into the man he believed Kaufmann to be. He appears to miss the mark in many ways, despite giving a widely celebrated performance in the role. However, people like Jerry Lawler speak about the difficulty he had in dealing with Carrey during the shoot, whereas he found Kaufmann to be disciplined and friendly off-screen.
In the documentary, Jim Carrey openly speaks about the intensity of the shoot and long-lasting affects it has had on him. The newly released footage will leave the viewer questioning the commitment actors have to their art and ask whether or not it can go too far.
