12 Insane Early Movie Roles By MCU Actors
10. Josh Brolin's Teen Skateboard Gang Romance - Thrashin'
He might be the biggest bad of the whole Marvel universe today, but thirty-five years ago the future Thanos was a skateboarding teen heartthrob in a role originally earmarked for Jump Street-era Johnny Depp.
Brolin went straight from his debut in The Goonies to the lead in 1986's "Romeo and Juliet with skateboards" story Thrashin'. He would later describe his own performance in the movie as "horrendous" and "the worst acting I've ever seen in my life".
Which is a little harsh, but does reflect the fact that the sex scene between Brolin and leading lady Pamela Gidley is as wooden as his DIY half-pipe, a totemic object that gets burnt to the ground by the nasty skate punk gang.
The movie itself, however, has developed a bit of a cult following. And, really, why wouldn't it when its central setpiece is a skateboard jousting clash between the rival gangs that feels like Bart Simpson at a Renaissance Faire?
And that's before you even mention the cameos from real-life skating legends like Tony Hawk and Per Welinder. Or the fact that there's a skating-turned-breakdance sequence featuring a live performance from an extremely fresh-faced Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
In fact, even though Thrashin' comes from the Breakin' school of middle-aged 80s guys trying to capture a hip new subculture and delivering an unapologetic cheesefest, it does at least come accompanied by a genuinely kickass soundtrack of hardcore punk and new wave sounds.
