12 Live-Action Anime Projects You Didn’t Know Were Happening

Sword Art Online (SAO) is a fascinating series that seems to be loathed within the anime community despite being one of the medium's most successful and profitable properties. In that regard, it's almost like anime's answer to Twilight or Call of Duty. That's why a live-action adaptation is such an intriguing (and laughable) idea. Oh, and Netflix is involved in this one too - hooray!

SAO takes place in the year 2022 (spooky) and shows as the titular video game hits the market. But, things take a drastic turn as the players are told that if they die in the game, they die in real life, and their only chance of escape is to beat the final level.

This adaptation is coming from Skydance Television and has veteran TV creators John Zinman and Patrick Massett behind it. Still, the lead executive and writer of the pilot is sci-fi legend Laeta Kalogridis, the writer of screenplays like Alita: Battle Angel and Shutter Island, not to mention the creator of the series Altered Carbon. That is a decent name, to be fair.

You can say what you want about the land of Aincrad, but it's safe to say that watching this potential train wreck will be a blast, for better or worse.
