12 Marvel Characters You Didn't Notice Are Already In The MCU

9. Nuke - Jessica Jones

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness The Living Tribunal
Netflix / Marvel

Desperate to become a Super Soldier like Captain America, Frank Simpson volunteered for the Weapon Plus program, which was a precursor for Weapon X. Although he was endowed with superstrength on par with Cap, the procedure left Frank deranged. Believing he was the new Captain America, Frank, now calling himself Nuke, tattooed the American flag on his face, and prepared to reshape the country in his own twisted image.

Because he's one of the easiest supervillains to recognise, you'd think Nuke would be impossible to miss if he showed up in the MCU, even for a second.

But few people registered he already appeared in Jessica Jones for two reasons. Firstly, no face tattoo. Secondly, they changed his name to Will Simpson. (No idea why. What's wrong with "Frank"?)

In fact, you would never guess this character was meant to be Nuke if it wasn't for his special tablets. Like the comics, Simpson relies on pills to maintain his power - red for boosting adrenalin, blue to heighten reflexes, and white to stop him from going all sorts of crazy. If you didn't pick up on this detail, you'd assume Will Simpson was a character created for the show.
