12 Marvel Movies To Make Phase 4 "Distinctly Different"
5. Captain America Reborn
Even if Chris Evans' Cap isn't killed off at some point during Phase 3, the actor's contract is still up for renegotiation and there's no telling whether he will commit beyond Infinity War. He has already publicly admitted that the initial commitment of playing Cap in a multi-picture deal was daunting, and extending that will hardly ease any anxieties.
So perhaps the answer for Marvel is to go the same way as the comics and have Steve Rogers pass the mantle on to another hero. We've seen both Bucky and Sam Wilson succeed Rogers on the page as Captain America and there's no reason the same can't be done on screen. After all, Captain America was introduced as an idea - a construct of propaganda - and anyone who is able and worthy enough to wield the Shield could claim the title.
That transition wouldn't necessarly warrant an entire film, but a rebootquel of sorts that thrust the new Cap into a new stand-alone adventure would make sense to draw a line in the sand.
The Challenges
Marvel's sales men will no doubt warn over the idea of "messing with the brand", and despite the James Bond analogy, there will be some worries over effectively recasting the character. Particularly when that character has been as well received as Chris Evans' Captain America.
