12 MCU Villains That Were Wasted

When James Spader was cast as the malevolent android in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it sounded like perfect casting. With Spader's husky voice, every word that Ultron uttered sounded captivating and hypnotic.

That is, until he started making jokes. Even though the trailer gave no indication Ultron would be cracking wise, he makes enough one-liners throughout the movie to fill a comedy routine.

Ultron is, by no means, a bad villain, but he is a perfect example of the MCU's problem with inserting as many quips as possible in a scene, even when it doesn't gel with the character. (Imagine how undercutting Thanos' menace would've been if he spouted witticisms in battle.)

Ultron is a good villain but he had the potential to be great if some of his cringier lines were left on the cutting room floor.
