3. "Ruprecht, do you want the genital cuff?" (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eF8QAeQm3ZM Dirty Rotten Scoundrels teams Caine with Steve Martin as two con men, with Caine portraying suave Lawrence Jamieson and Martin portraying the far less tactful Freddy Benson. It's full of funny dialogue, especially Jamieson's putdowns of Benson's intelligence when Benson becomes his protégé. But what could be funnier than Caine threatening to put Martin's private parts in shackles? At one point Benson disguises himself as Ruprecht, Jamieson's mentally ill brother as part of their plan to scare a rich woman out of her money. Jamieson shouts this outrageous threat when Ruprecht gets inappropriate with her. The woman is horrified by the implication of the remark, but as for the audience? They're laughing hysterically about hearing the line come from the supposedly dignified mouth of Caine's character. Obviously Martin's character gets more of the humorous lines in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, but this line from Caine usually gets the biggest laugh of the film. Who would ever expect that line to come from Michael Caine, especially with funnyman Steve Martin in the same movie?
