12 MIA Marvel Cinematic Universe Characters Unlikely To Ever Return
9. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard)
When comics are adapted into films, there are inevitably always original characters that are included in some capacity. Erik Selvig was the first original character to play a major role in the series when he popped up in Thor, leading the research team that found Chris Hemsworth’s titular God in the New Mexico desert.
He subsequently appeared under Loki’s mind control in the The Avengers, then ran naked around Stonehenge in Thor: The Dark World and played a part in the bizarre Water of Sights sequence in Age Of Ultron.
Though he continued to work at the Avengers facility, Selvig hasn’t been seen since. He’s evidently not been completely forgotten about, given that his photo was one of several used in the roll call of Thanos’ victims in Endgame, but it does feel as if something about the character was lost when direction the Russos took control of the Avengers series.
Veteran actor Stellan Skarsgard still has one film left on his Marvel deal. Time will tell if they ever exercise it given that he hasn’t been announced for Thor: Love And Thunder or Wandavision, despite his assistant Darcy’s appearance in the latter.
