You no doubt remember it because it was the money shot at the end of nearly every trailer. (2:25)
Why It Would Have Been Awesome: It’s hard to create a concise list of all the problems with Fantastic Four, but one of it’s biggest flaws was being a superhero blockbuster with very little action. Aside from a minor skirmish with Reed and some soldiers, there’s no discernible fight scene until the very end of the film.
First and foremost, this scene, as outlined by many outlets as one of the biggest things to get chopped in the final film, would have provided a huge action sequence right at the midpoint. Considering all the serious character work, this would have been a welcome breather in the proceedings.
More importantly, it would have bridged the One Year Later gap much more seamlessly. We would understand how Ben had transitioned into a role with the military and could have slowly re-acclimated to our new setting. Instead, we’re startlingly thrust into a time jump, without any action to sate us.
