8. Electricity Interrogation - Taken
In 2008's Taken, an action thriller centred on retired government agent Brian Mills search for his kidnapped daughter, Liam Neeson etched his name amongst action movie royalty.
A desperate father's search for his missing child is an enthralling thought from its synopsis alone, but the tense conversations and thrilling set pieces elevate the film's quality, despite being restricted to a 90-minute runtime.
Largely set in Paris and its surrounding area, Mills navigates the tight French streets, interrogating those who possess the answers to his daughters whereabouts.
One such interrogation scene is between Mills and Albanian trafficker Marko Hoxha. Upon discovering Marko's involvement in his child's disappearance, Mills ties him to a chair in what appears to be a dingy, abandoned basement and uses electricity to pry answers from his prey.
Though the scene is largely an interrogation, as Mills departs with the next breadcrumb on the trail he flicks the light switch on as he leaves the room, frying the electrics in the room and surging volts into Marko's body.
As electricity courses through his veins, the viewer is lead to believe nobody will return in time, so Marko's immediate --and very short-- future is to be quite the painful one.
