Director Craig S. Zahler disgusted us all with the infamous scalping and bisection scene in his 2015 horror western Bone Tomahawk and luckily for all the gore-hounds out there he stayed true to form with his latest effort, the brutally violent but thoroughly entertaining exploitation flick Brawl in Cell Block 99.

Vince Vaughn stars as Bradley, a convicted drug mule who must pull of a particularly difficult prison hit or else his pregnant wife and unborn child will be murdered at the hands of Mexican drug lord Eleazar’s goons. Eventually, Bradley finds out the supposed hit is a ruse and that Eleazar and his henchman have been in the prison all along. At the first opportunity, Bradley goes about exacting his revenge in a blistering and brutal final fight sequence.

We’re not lying about the violence. Bradley dispatches one henchman by knocking him out, stomping on his head and using the floor as a scourer to de-skin his face. Another has his eyes gouged out and the final surviving henchman has his skull crushed by Vine Vaughn’s huge foot.

Bradley reserves the most brutal punishment for kingpin Eleazar, however, by stomping on his neck repeatedly and decapitating him before befittingly leaving his severed head at the bottom of a s**t-filled squat toilet.

Whatever brutality will Zahler shock us all with next?
