While young Georgie’s death in It was certainly harrowing, another Stephen King adaptation – Mike Flanagan’s Gerald’s Game – managed to out-gore Andy Muschietti with its no doubt soon-to-be-infamous degloving scene.

After Jessie (Carla Gugino) and her husband Gerald retreat to a remote lakeside cabin in a bid to rekindle their sex life and save their marriage she finds herself handcuffed to a bedpost, when a bit of bondage play is cut short by Gerald dropping dead of a heart attack.

With the handcuff key way out of reach, a stray dog feeding on the body of her dead husband and a possibly real, possibly hallucinated serial killer stalking her, an increasingly weak and desperate Jessie resorts to cutting and peeling back the skin of her hand with a shard of glass to free herself.

Definitely not a scene for the weak-stomached, Flanagan doesn’t shy away from showing us the degloving in all its graphic and gory glory. If you managed to make it through the scene without throwing up in your mouth a little, we salute you.
