12 Most Dark And Twisted Movie Scenes Of 2017
7. It – Georgie Meets Pennywise
Director Andy Muschietti’s disturbing reinterpretation of It’s infamous storm drain scene is one of the movie’s best and most shocking. As both an opening scene and our introduction to Bill Skarsgård’s menacingly malevolent Pennywise, it’s both brutal and brilliant, and in upping the gore factor to 11 Muschietti makes the scene his own.
Naturally seeing a kid having his arm ripped off by an evil clown is certainly the most twisted aspect of this scene, but it’s the lead up to Georgie’s demise and Pennywise’s interactions with him – all persuasive buffoonery and wild giggling peppered with the occasional glimpse of his true and purely evil intentions – that really racks up the tension and gives the scene its sinister edge.
Hats off to Skarsgård who more than fills the big shoes left by Tim Curry’s portrayal of Pennywise in 1990 adaptation and makes the character his own and kudos to Muschietti for going with such a gory and gutsy opening.
