Honey, I came out of retirement!

There's nothing Hollywood executives love more in today's film industry than to green light a sequel or spin-off to a successful franchise. Major hits like the MCU and the Wizarding World have shown what safe bets these films can be. As a result, the industry can feel quite predictable at times, especially when we're used to seeing the same characters on-screen again and again.

So it makes for a nice surprise when we hear about the return of an iconic or popular character returning to a franchise that we didn't expect to see again. Over the next couple of years, we're set to see the re-emergence of characters we thought had been killed off and performances from actors we thought had retired, but who decided to head back into the industry.

Whether these will turn out to be good or bad, these are the big characters we can't wait to see again...

12. Black Widow (Black Widow)

When Natasha Romanova got killed off in Avengers: Endgame, fans were shocked. Her death came shortly after the announcement of her own solo MCU movie, something which we'd be waiting for for years, and it was assumed the film would be a continuation of her story after Endgame.

It's since been revealed Black Widow (out in May this year) will be a prequel, focusing both on Nat's past before she became an Avenger, as well as a time period after Captain America: Civil War, but before the Infinity Saga.

In many ways, this makes her solo film more intriguing - we now know the outcome of Scarlett Johansson's heroine, and it makes the story more tragic as a result, as we know what she's heading towards.

There's very likely to be some sort of reference to her death in the film and unless Marvel decide to pull the rug under us and find a way to reverse her death from the past, it's possible this is the last time we get to see this beloved character.
