The 1992 follow-up to the film that made Macaulay Culkin the most famous kid on the planet isn't always held in the highest esteem. Many critics have noted, not unreasonably, that it's essentially a beat-for-beat retread of the original, the only difference being that it moves young anti-hero Kevin out of his house and into New York City.

Sure, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York can easily be dismissed as a lazy cash grab that's even more sadistically violent than its predecessor, and has a somewhat questionable legacy thanks to that notorious Donald Trump cameo. Even so, it recaptures that same sense of anarchic fun that made the 1990 original such an enduring favourite, and is just as resplendent with the holiday spirit.

And if nothing else, Home Alone 2 is worth it for giving us another new great Christmas tune from Darlene Love. Perhaps in keeping with the spirit of the film itself, All Alone On Christmas - written by Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band guitarist and future Sopranos actor Steve Van Zandt - is very much riffing on Love's earlier hit, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).

Speaking of which...
