Yes, 29 years before she sang All Alone On Christmas for Home Alone 2, Darlene Love recorded Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), arguably the stand-out track on the beloved album A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector.

And eight years before Home Alone 2 hit screens, Joe Dante's even more anarchic Christmas classic Gremlins startled audiences worldwide with its not-quite family friendly vision of a small town holiday season sent straight to Hell by a plague of malevolent little green monsters.

After the ominous opening sequence in which the pivotal mogwai Gizmo is introduced, Gremlins establishes its setting of Kingston Falls, a quaint little All-American town that's covered in snow and seasonal decorations; and the use of Darlene Love's classic song perfectly sets the mood.

What an idyllic Christmas scene it seems; nothing bad could happen here, right? Little do we know!
