12 Most Memorable Christmas Songs From The Movies
5. Home Alone - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
We already mentioned the sequel, so obviously this list could not be complete without the original Home Alone, the 1990 family comedy favourite in which Macaulay Culkin's Kevin McCallister is accidentally left behind when his family fly to France for Christmas, leaving him to fend for himself when a duo of bungling burglars break in; a task the young rapscallion/potential sociopath takes to with somewhat alarming glee.
Now, when it comes to use of Christmas songs, Home Alone is a veritable smorgasbord. Loads of seasonal standards make the cut, from the rockin' (Chuck Berry's Run Run Rudolph) to the smooth (The Drifters' White Christmas) to traditional choir music (O Holy Night, Carol of the Bells).
But probably the film's most memorable musical moment comes when Kevin tries to fake out the burglars into believing the family are home by staging an impromptu Christmas party set out to Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree, aided by such convenient household objects as a bunch of mannequins, a train set, and a cardboard cut-out of Michael Jordan.
And when all that doesn't work, never fear: there's all those other, considerably more lethal implements from around the house that the unsupervised eight-year old boy has easy access to.
