12 Most Paused Horror Movie Moments

In a film full of weirdness like The Shining – creepy dead twins, ghostly bartender, rotting bathtub lady and moon landing conspiracies included – it’s hard to pinpoint its most messed up moment. But if you’re like us, there’s one scene in particular that had you reaching for the pause button saying ‘What the f**k did I just see?’.

It comes after Jack Torrance has well and truly cracked and is chasing his family around the hotel wielding an axe. His terrified wife Wendy runs upstairs and finds an open doorway beyond which a dude dressed in what can only be described as a crudely crafted furry suit (complete with a convenient rear flap) meant to resemble a bear giving another dude dressed in a tuxedo head.

This WTF moment actually alludes to a bit in Stephen King’s original book about a previous owner of the Overlook Hotel who had a homosexual affair with a man he coerced into dressing like a dog. But in the film, the scene is random and out of context which makes it all the more weird.
