11. Alien Raiders

The 6th Day
Warner Bros.

Released in 2008, this claustrophobic sci-fi thriller combines elements from Frank Darabont’s The Mist, the same year’s Splinter, and the alien bounty hunter story of Predator for an intense thrill ride which will satisfy fans of The Thing’s dark, relentless paranoia.

As a set of armed and dangerous scientists take a convenience store hostage, they inform the terrified patrons that there are the titular extra-terrestrial life forms hidden in their midst and set about rooting them out.

What follows is a tense stand-off which eventually descends into gory body horror, but not before some inventive, violent set pieces which take advantage of the genius premise wherein no character is guaranteed to be who they appear and no one can be trusted even amongst the limited cast.
