12 Most Underrated 2000s Sci-Fi Movies

The 6th Day
Miramax

Often derided as an over-stylized Matrix clone (appropriately enough, given its themes), this action thriller from 2002 stars Christian Bale as a law enforcement officer living in a future dystopia wherein all emotion is outlawed. That is, until this firebrand officer unintentionally catches feelings and decides to overthrow the totalitarian regime, resulting in some outlandish gunkata battles which mash up kung fu with unrealistic and deeply cool gunfighting for some of the sci-fi genre’s most guiltily enjoyable action sequences.

Yes, the gun fu is insultingly unrealistic and the plot is insultingly simplistic, but it’s all in good far-fetched fun, and this flick is well worth a watch for anyone who’s ever pictured themselves firing two guns at once whilst simultaneously high-kicking two baddies—so all of us, then.
