12 Movie Characters Who KNEW They Were In Movies
6. Wayne & Garth In Wayne's World
Wayne's World started as a Saturday Night Live sketch, just like The Blues Brothers, and other box office mega-hits such as Coneheads, It's Pat (sitting pretty with a 0% Rotten Tomatoes rating) and Stuart Saves His Family (?)
Aside from giving us the iconic Bohemian Rhapsody head banging scene, (which led to Mike Myers getting a small part in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie) and 'schwing', the movie is most memorable for its unconventional multiple endings, the first of which is fairly downbeat. Cassandra doesn't get the record deal she wants, blames Wayne, and runs off with Rob Lowe's sleazy Benjamin character. Wayne's house burns to the ground, and he carries Garth through the smouldering wreckage, screaming into the night.
The pair quickly appear back on screen asking if we really thought they'd end the movie like that, and give us a couple of alternate endings. The 'Scooby-Doo ending', where Lowe's character is revealed to actually be 'Old Man Withers', the guy who runs the haunted amusement park. And finally the ridiculously happy ending, where everyone gets what they want. Apart from Lorne Michaels, who wants to successfully turn every SNL sketch into a movie, for apparently no gain.
