12 Movie Franchises That Could Have Turned Out So Much Better

7. Unbreakable 2: The Revenge Of Mr Glass

Unbreakable 2 Why M Night Shyamalan? Why? Instead of making one rubbish film after another, you could have made a sequel to one of your best films (There are two for your information- the other is The Sixth Sense). The director himself had this to say about a sequel to Unbreakable a couple of months ago and his thoughts on whether it will ever happen... "I have seriously, actually. And again, it's the same conversation we've been having, which is as long as it can be connected to something I'm feeling right now then it'll work for me, it'll be valid and I'll enjoy it. If I feel like it's a mechanical thing €“ I'm doing it because it'll be profitable or successful €“ it'll just be so hollow.I can look at movies and regardless of their success or their reception they're honest to me and they represent who I am. That's an amazing thing to be able to say, you know? So my agenda is to make another one - I just have to figure out a plot and a thing that makes sense... I'm close. I'm closer. On my dresser table I have like a whole list of notes about it." Personally that just sounds like he's saying a whole load of nothing. That or he really is a one trick pony (or two film pony) who doesn't have the skill to come up with a decent sequel idea. And that baffles me. Like The Incredibles, Unbreakable was another film that could have taken the superhero genre in an interesting new direction. A real world superhero story more real than anything Nolan came up with. With Samuel L Jackson firmly cemented as the super villain Mr Glass (That was an amazing twist) I would love to see where Bruce Willis' David Dunn would go next. Would Mr Glass set up more fantastical obstacles for David to stop. Or in true super villain style would he now set out to destroy the hero and everyone around them? In a way, Unbreakable feels like the first act of a much larger story. Maybe one day we'll get more. But if M Night Shyamalan has his way, probably not...
