12 Movie Franchises That Need To Take A Break

1. The DC Extended Universe

And finally, we have the DC Extended Universe, which after five movies has released just one, Wonder Woman, to a high level of both critical and audience acclaim.

Justice League was a bland, soulless disaster, and though Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 are on the horizon, the future of the DCEU as a shared, intertwined world is looking rather shaky indeed.

The idea of an MCU-esque DC movie universe should probably be dispensed with, instead allowing DC's heroes to simply star in their own movies under the same DCEU banner. Audiences clearly don't care about a potential Justice League 2, so there doesn't seem to be much utility in linking these solo movies together.

Perhaps one day a Justice League sequel might be appealing, but for now, Warner Bros. needs to focus on making good, singular movies, building up their heroes separately and maybe trying again with a team-up movie in 5 years.

Is it time for these franchises to take a breather? Or are there any tired series we missed? Shout them out in the comments!
