12 Movie Franchises That Need To Take A Break

Though the four films to date have scored wildly polarising reviews, Insidious has been a consistently excellent return-on-investment for Blumhouse, grossing a ludicrous $539.4 million on a mere combined budget of $26.5 million.

While the fourth movie, Insidious: The Last Key, was supposed to be the final entry into the series, this position was reconsidered after the film posted the highest box office of the entire franchise earlier this year.

The next few movies will reportedly be prequels documenting the origins of the various demonic characters throughout the series, with the Lipstick-Face Demon movie tentatively set for a 2020 bow.

But honestly, at this point, what more can the series do? The first film was a legitimately creepy affair, but all of the sequels have underwhelmed and basically served up lazy, forgettable riffs on the same sorts of "thrills".

There's no way the series is taking a breather until the box office receipts start dropping sharply, but if there's any regard for quality control at all, it's probably best to push those prequel movies back a while and wait until inspiration takes hold.
